Gino’s East Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I'm a big Pizzeria Uno fan, so I was excited to hear Gino's was here in Tx, so we planned lunch here while visiting San Antonio. Called ahead 30-35 mins before arrival and ordered our deep dish pie, split half veggie & half meaty legend. It was delivered within minutes of our arrival. I was impresed with the mounds of meat on the pie: they didn't skimp. Loaded with cheese too. The crust was nicely done, and their classic tomato sauce was a little on the sweet side, which I liked. Pricier than Uno, not sure it's any better. Bring your appetite.

Definitely a long wait. Typically about an hour. Call ahead! Sad they removed the deep dish nachos. Changed their menu as of today, 9/15. Brisket Deep Dish. Enough said. Authentic Chicago Deep Dish.

Went here for lunch for the first time with co-workers at prime lunchtime on a Thursday. Restaurant was not packed at all, which is surprising for restaurants in this area for it being lunch. We were greeted and seated immediately. My co-workers and I already decided ahead of time that we were going for the lunch combo. You get a 6-inch deep dish pizza(one-topping included), choice of a house or a Caesar salad and a drink for $8.99. Not too bad! That's probably your best bet for lunch because a regular size deep dish pizza will take about 45 minutes and their regular size thin crust pizza will take about 20 minutes. It took about 10-15 minutes for us all to get our pizza after we ordered. The pizza was good, not the best deep dish I've ever had, but good enough for me to give it another try during dinner time. If you're craving pizza for lunch and don't feel like going to the Pizza Hut buffet, I would definitely recommend this place. Gino's has friendly service and good pizza.

I never leave bad reviews but sorry I won't be back to this place again. First, we walked in during lunch and there was only 3 other customers at the time. This should have told me something. The waitress comes over very polite and informs us that it does take 45 - 1 hr for a deep dishes so we chose to order of the lunch menu thinking it would be faster. It took 40 min to get a chicken Alfredo & meatball sub. The waitress however put in a order for a chicken sandwich? So glad she got it wrong cause the chicken was dry, burnt . My chicken Alfredo was also dry just not burnt. The food is bland and way over priced. The management needs to pay attention to the quality of service. Nice decor even the writing on the walls.

Food was great it took a while to have our order taken.. Otherwise if you have patience it's a great place

Way overpriced, don't care how fresh, 45 minutes for a pie. Thank you but I am good. Nice try on convincing the staff on selling 'apps' while waiting. The pizza was mediocre. First and last visit documented. Never again.

By far a really good deep dish pizza. Expect to wait 45 mins to an hour for your deep dish to bake. Take in an appetizer while you wait. My brother and I shared the Calamari with a spicy marinara sauce. It was delish. We order the 6 slice deep-dish supreme pizza and it was amazing. I love chunky tomato sauces and it was loaded with toppings. This is a place to chill and relax with friends and family. I'll definitely make another stop here again!

Absolutely thrilled that a great slice of Chicago is now in San Antonio! First off, you might wait a bit for a table. That being said, well worth the wait! We actually ended up sitting at the bar which added to the experience. We had a Greek Salad, calamari, and a deep dish pizza. It has been 6 years since I lived in Chicago and this meal brought back great memories! Be sure to get the deep dish and not the thin crust or else you might develop food envy! Friendly people and incredible food.

Don't even bother with this place. 26 bucks for a small pizza with a cookie flakey crust and middle dough kinda raw. I get that good food take time to cook but it wasn't worth the time and price. Lastly, if you're gonna charge $26 for a small pie, don't have writing all over the walls like you're eating at a kids table. For that price for pizza, I expect EXCEPTIONAL atmosphere and taste. All I got was Peter piper at best.

This is only a review of the lunch special. Small personal deep dish pizza with few toppings. Crust was very disappointing. Did see signs that the cook time of their regular pizzas were one hour. That should be a big improvement over the lunch special which arrived in ten minutes. On this occasion speed is not a good thing.

Gino's L-East Overrated! Food -Deep Dish Meaty Legend $33 Overpriced Too much cheese not enough sauce and couldn't find the crust. Bland taste at best. Service- Server was crass and used inappropriate language and disappeared when I needed a drink refill. Overall the food is bland and overpriced and the service is tactless. This place has a long way to go.

We were fairly disappointed by Gino's. I don't enjoy most deep dish pizzas, but in Chicago I have definitely had amazing ones. So I had high hopes for this place. Unfortunately they haven't quite gotten a hang of service or seating yet. They had a hard time figuring out where to seat us with a high chair because a lot of the tables are bar-height (they had many open tables though, we were thereat about 4:30pm on a Sunday afternoon). Then when they finally took us to a table there was no high chair there, and the space for the high chair was blocking the other seats, so we had to stand as a group by the table for a few minutes as they went to find the high chair. Hopefully these glitches will improve over time. As for the food - we ordered the Gino's salad, which was $9 and big enough to share but definitely nothing special. Mostly greens and a few chopped carrots and red onions with an olive slice here and there. We also ordered the spinach and mozzarella sticks, which were actually pretty good. Lastly, we got the deep dish Gino's with pepperoni (it came with green bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms). I'm not sure if I would have preferred it just with pepperoni, or what the problem was. But it just wasn't great. The combination of green bell pepper and onions cooking in the tomato sauce made it have a hint of pace picante sauce, which wasn't really what I was looking for. The crust was also just ok. All in all I doubt I'll be back. Although I'd be interested in trying one of their frozen pizzas you can buy at the restaurant to bake at home. Note - they don't do take-out yet until May. And won't have delivery available until June.

Sorry, Papa John's. So long, Pizza Hut. Domino's? No thanks. Give me Gino's East! Their first day open, and business was booming! So many homesick Chicagoans (and I myself from right up I-94) flocked to Gino's for a taste of the Windy City's famous pie. If you go and expect to get a quick pizza...sorry, go to one of the big chain pizza places. A great pizza takes its time...45 minutes to a full hour for that wonderful, flavorful deep dish yumminess to fully come to fruition. Wife and I went on Thursday, two days after opening day, and even at 5:30 PM, it was a bit of a wait, and once we were seated, more people came flowing throught the doors. We ordered our apps: wife and I both had our own Caprese Jar salad (yes, the capreses actually comes in a jar!), and the spinach mozzarella sitcks. Absolutely wonderful! And the pizza? Nothing but MEAT baby! We shared a medium Meat Legend, and it was legendary! Pepperoni, mild Italian sausage (obviously the Sausage King of Chicago provided), bacon and ham. Wife wanted extra cheese and got it! LOTS of ooey gooey mozzarella cheese from WISCONSIN (YES!) and came out piping hot! Two slices later, we were taking the rest home in a box to enjoy while watching "Ferris Bueller", "The Blues Brothers" and "Chicago" (the musical). Santos was our waiter, and he was on the ball! All of the management staff came by several times to make sure we were happy. Of course! Next time we'll have to try one of the Texas BBQ pies. But for now all I can say is GINO'S EAST ROCKS! One issue: WHY deduct a star if you don't get enough cheese? Tell them EXTRA cheese next time. I just don't get you San Antonians...deducting stars for silly reasons. Again, that lettuce thing... Chicago, Chicago, that toddlin' town... Oh...and don't pay any attention to Viv. She doesn't know. And her review got put in the "Not Recommended" trash bin.

The wait was long for this pie but Chicago deep dish was worth it! The service was great! The pizza was hot and the crust was crispy! The sauce was delicious. We have been to Giordano's in Chicago and this deep dish took me right back to the Windy City! This Pizza is a must have! Glad Gino's graced Texas with their presence!

We were trying to find a place to watch an A&M football game and enjoy some Chicago style pizza. 20+ TV screens, but no SEC network nor Longhorn Network, but they were proud because they had NFL ticket. We are in Texas, where football is king, ALL FOOTBALL. Pizza was good but we waited almost an hour for the pizza. Management seemed out of touch about running a sports bar or themed restaurant. Hope in the future, they find a way to show all Aggie games and even the dreaded Horn games.

Gino's East has the potential for 5 stars with a couple of tweaks. Number one, they need to work on the thickness of the Chicago style pizza. The taste is good, we ordered the Meat Legend pizza, excellent sauce, meats and cheese, very good taste and ohhhhhh that crust! I will go back for the crust! Secondly, the staff was all over the place. Literally, crawling with staff, yet, we didn't get our drinks till we had eaten most of our salad. Everyone was friendly. I understand it can be chaotic at first, so I will chalk it up to inexperience. We did get asked several times about our food which leads me to believe they will take our feedback to help improve. Come on Gino's, you can do it!

OMG! So I'm a little late with review. I've been here twice and both time I cannot believe how good the food was! This does not miss the mark. It's a piece of Chicago in Texas! Make sure you order the Gino's Supreme or Meaty Legend!!

For not being in Chicago, it's pretty darned good Chicago pizza. No it's no Loud Malnatis but it's still really good, check it out sometime. And do Viv the clueless Chicago pizza expert, Chicago pizza is always crust, cheese toppings then sauce.

  • Miguel E.

If this truly is how Chicago style pizza should taste then I'm truly disappointed. Then again I've never been to Chicago so therefore my opinion is just based truly on this establishment. The crust on the pizza was just horrible. No flavor at all. Not to mention that we have to wait over 45 minutes to get a Chicago style pizza. I get it that's how it's done but my personal opinion it was not worth the wait. On another note the waiter wouldn't refill my cup unless o asked. Truly poor waiting skills.

You're in for a long, long, LONG wait should you decide to come here for dinner. It was a Friday night and the place was full, but that didn't excuse the over an hour wait for our pizza. It honestly was closer to two hours, so if you actually show up hungry, as I did, just be warned you're in for the long haul. Had calimari appetizer which was bland and had a very rubbery texture. After an excruciatingly long wait our two pizzas arrived, deep dish meaty legend and a thin buffalo chicken. The meaty legend was good but nothing special in terms of flavor the cheese was the best. The crust was thick but underdone in the middle, and had a corn bread look and taste to it, and the meats just had no exceptional flavor. The thin crust buffalo was way better in terms of flavor, a nice spicy with real blue cheese. The crust consistency was also better crispy and crunchy. Overall would not recommend or return the food isn't worth the wait. Our visit was literally from about 6:30pm all the way to 9:45pm. Ridiculous.

We were so happy that Gino's East opened in San Antonio! Our own deep-dish slice of Chicago!! So delicious and authentic to Chicago (although the Chi town's version is slightly better). Wish that they had the AMAZING cannoli that the Chicago locations have!

  • Sara N.

Be prepared for a long wait. It is chicago deep dish pizza and we expected to wait a while for the pizza so that really wasn't a problem. The location inside is nice and homey feeling. The pizza itself was just ok. We got the margherita and spinach deep dish and it was good but nothing to write home about. I wasn't a big fan of the crust they used either. The service here wasn't that great though. Our waiter didn't come up to us at all and our waters were empty before the pizza came and he never refilled it. At the end when he dropped off the check he asked if we wanted to get water to go... Customer service here seems to be a general issue. The lady next to us complained that she got a deep dish pizza when she asked for a thin crust. The waiter at the other table dropped the pizza that the family had waited an hour for already. oops. It is fairly new so maybe we will visit once they get a better hang of running the place.

  • Tracy D.

This was a bit of a disappointment. The Gino's Supreme deep dish pizza took forever to come out, and it seriously lacked flavor. I agree with a previous poster, the pizza was a big bowl of flavorless sauce in a crappy crust. We ordered the Chicago Fire pizza as well. That was the better of the two pizzas. You know it's bad when out of 8 people no one wants the leftovers.

  • Juve G.

Save your money and appetite...The one time I didn't Yelp and I ended up at a horrible tasting and overpriced "chicago pizza" joint. Do yourself a favor and order a frozen pizza from Giordanos online. An authentic pizza place should not be empty during lunch on the weekends..That should have been hint number one.

    (1)
  • Michael H.

So my review is limited to the lunch special deep dish. Not enough toppings, really not that good. Crust was bleh. The crust formed a bowl and the bowl was filled with tomato sauce. Reminded me of a thick bowl of tomato soup in a bread bowl, it did not taste, or look like pizza.

We arrived at 3:15pm and were greeted by no one. After 2 minutes, we assumed there wasn't hostess and seated ourselves. After 5 minutes of only seeing a bartender, a waiter finally appeared and provided menus. A hostess appeared briefly to help another guest and disappeared again. During our entire 45 minute stay there was rarely anyone at the hostess station. 15 minutes after our arrival the salads were delivered from the pass through on the bar side of the table. No dressing choice was offered, but Italian is what arrived with the salad. The entrees arrived shortly after the salad, again passed through the bar side of the table. The waiter only announced himself when he would approach the open side of the table. The spaghetti and meatballs was a large portion but disappointing. It was under seasoned and the spaghetti over cooked. While trying to add salt, nothing would come out of the shaker. The salt had clumped together. The chicken pesto was a hearty portion but again, under seasoned. We were checked on once and by then, we were halfway through the meal. The odd habit of serving and clearing from the bar side of the table continued as the dishes were removed. My glass ran dry, but on the positive side, we were offered to-go cups. I was looking forward to trying out Gino's. In all fairness, they are known for their pizzas, and we didn't order any pies. I hope those that get the pizzas have a better experience. Ours was not worthy of a famous Chicago eatery.

Service is always friendly here! This is such a cool place to bring friends and family for unique Pizzas. I love the crispy thin pizza dough, which happens to be made fresh daily. Oh, and you've gotta try their Brussels Sprouts! AMAZING!

I started my dinner with a Caesar salad, then had a SMALL cheese deep dish (one of their LEAST expensive pizzas on the menu) and a soda. I about fainted when I saw the bill. It was close to $30.00 and with a moderate tip it was about $35.00!! For that kind of money I could have had a nice steak dinner. The pizza was good, but not that good. If you have a family of 3 or more, BRING YOUR CREDIT CARD, THE PLACE IS VERY EXPENSIVE!!!

Gino's restraunt was a miserable experience. The 45 minute wait is just ridiculous and they do tell you how long it's going to be but there was no entertainment except for the few sports channels they had on and the waiter only checked on us maybe twice the whole time. When I asked for a water she rudely set the cup down with some attitude and just walked away, no smile or friendly customer service. The pizza isn't worth the wait truthfully because I've had better pizza from the local H.E.B. which takes less time, less money, and I could've added all those toppings for LESS. I was tempted to try their bar drinks but was seriously unimpressed by the service I decided not to waste anymore time or money at Ginos. At one point it took our waiter 20 minutes to take our order ontop of the 45 minutes wait for the pizza....do the math. They even kepted potential customers waiting 5 - 10 minutes waiting to be sat down when the place was practically empty... I will not be returning to Ginos and I would highly suggest you avoid this pizza establishment.

"So, alright check it out, so whatever y'all want to drink I'm not gonna put it on your bill, so you know, take care of me hook me up with the tip I'll be right back.." Ummmm ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! This ladies and gentlemen is the first of many crazy events we experienced at our first visit here. Inhale So where do I begin? We arrive at 9:45 on Saturday evening immediately we were asked to place our order because our pizza will take at least 45 minutes to an hour. We gladly obliged (giving that they close at 11) and placed our drink orders as well, and now the funs begins! As our waiter is walking by our table he says and I quote "Man I hate cheap motherf-ers" referring to a table of people who just finished paying and left. (Everyone at my table was like so did he just really say that let alone aloud for people to hear.?) So 30 minutes later our pizza arrives at our table and he begins to slice the pizza for us at the same time telling us how hard it is for him to cut it and "what did they do to this pizza?", say what?! So he serves everyone a slice asked if we needed anything else and let us be. Halfway through eating our pizza he returns to ask how things were and if we needed anything else, so we request refills he returns shortly after with our drinks no hiccups this visit. Nearing the end of dinner again he returns and asked if we need anything else since this was apparently last call on all drinks but water. Say What?! So a friend orders a coke and as he is walking the drink back to the table someone at our table SEES HIM PUT HIS HAND IN THE DRINK AND REMOVE SOMETHING AND THEN HE PROCEEDS TO SERVE THIS DRINK TO MY FRINED!! Holy Cow! We are ready to leave at this point. Oh by the way this is when the bill was delivered as well, he then starts to attempt to clean the table when he says "just put the dirty s&@# in the pan and I'll get it, oh hey and don't forget about me not charging you for the drinks!" Our bill was $72 and some change we still left the animated individual a tip of $17 and some change, everyone has to make a living right. Exhale Never going back again

Food was good, service was AWFUL. Our bill was $81.19 and when our server Steve O, ran our card, he charged me $181.19, we only left a $20 tip. He was trying to be cool with our table, but cursing every other sentence is not cool. Food was fine but I do not plan on going back and would NOT recommend anyone else go either.

Save yourself a bad experience and do not give this establishment your time or money. The pizza was a gross gob of oily cheese that took 45 minutes to prepare, our waiter recommended a beer then brought us a different beer and didn't know the difference, and he added $80 to his tip on the credit card slip! My friend is currently disputing this thievery with Gino's management. What a terrible experience!

This restaurant has only been open for about a month now and it really shows. I'm a thin crust pizza kinda girl and grew up on the east coast so I do know what good pizza taste like, and this pizza wasn't very good. There was no sauce on our pizza! After waiting the 45 mins, you'd expect at least the pizza to basically be right. The crust was thick and yucky and the bottom of the pizza, the crust was thin. It was very chaotic in there and I thought a lot of the staff were unprofessional. If I'm going to pay a large sum for pizza, it should taste amazing OR the ambiance better be fantastic...neither was happening here. Should have stayed home and had Dominos with the kids!

I was really excited to see what this place had to offer. Started out with the cheese bread and spinach and artichoke dip. Those were pretty good. I of course left room for the deep dish pizza. We went ahead and built our own: medium with artichokes, spinach, mushrooms, onions and olives. Well, it arrived and fell to pieces. There wasn't that layer affect of toppings, cheese and sauce. Seemed more like a pan pizza on corn bread crust. It was pretty bland and tasteless. Disappointed. Server was great though.

Love that you can do half and half in their pizzas. Tried the thin crust buffalo chicken and zip ginos, so delicious. Crust was perfect, lots of toppings. Definitely will be back!

Visited Geno's this afternoon about 330 pm. There was maybe 3 or 4 tables with customers in the restaurant. Ordered a chicken parmesan sandwich, kid's cheese pizza and a spinach margherita thin crust pizza. My wife sent the sandwich back because it was tasteless and changed to mozzarella cheese sticks. I ordered the thin crust pizza because we didn't have 45mins + to wait for deep dish. My pizza wasn't special and i couldnt believe it cost $25 for such a small pizza (12" med) with Spinach, Tomatoes, Basil, and Bufala Mozzarella. When I asked the waiter he said that's the price although it's not listed on the menu. The thin crust med pizza run from $15-$20. I don't plan on coming back any time soon....if ever.

We went during lunch on a Monday. It wasn't busy at all which shows you right there that the hype is over. Any successful restaurant in San Antonio is busy all of the time. The service was great. There are no complaints in that department. Our server checked on us often. Our drinks were never empty. She was friendly and had a smile. I believe her name was Taylor. Now the cons we ordered calamari. It was too fried. That was the first thing we noticed. Once we tried to eat it we realized it was most likely frozen at some point. The calamari itself was white and chewy. Some pieces could not be cut with a knife. The ice tea was cloudy and the beer was served in a chipped glass. The pizza was ok. Nothing to write home about or come back for. I personally like Lou Malnati's better but we are in San Antonio, TX so I thought we would give it a chance. The sauce was bland and watery. The toppings just slid off the pizza. It wasn't a pie. The crust reminded me of a waffle. It even had the same taste. The restroom was cleanish. It smelled pretty bad. You can tell the restaurant used to be an Applebee's. Same layout. I won't be back. I also won't recommend this place to anyone.

Do not waste your money!!! We ordered take out and ordered a chicago style deep dish (small) pizza & fet alfredo with chicken. The pizza was gross, cold, lacked enough toppings. The crust tasted like day old bread. The alfredo was the worse. The sauce was running, the chicken tasted as if it was boiled for chicken soup. $45.00 wasted!!

Lived in the Chicago area, been to Pizza Uno, Lou Malnatti, Giordano's. I must have been spoiled because the pizza is below Chicago average standard. Its cheesy, but their marinara is lacking. The crust is your average butter crust. Sorry Gino's just not quite like home, but 3 stars for effort, a good craft beer selection and top notch staffing.

We made another visit out of hockey season to Gino's. Unfortunately, I can now see why the low ratings. We called ahead to make sure they were showing the Cubs game as we live nearly 45 min away... We get there and after ordering realize they were not showing the game. One of the managers came over and said he would look for it but came back and said unless it's a local game they don't have it and blamed the hostess for the misinformation... Didn't try to make it right... Just shrugged his shoulders and left our table. The thing was we went there for that game... That was the only reason why we went. They even tweeted about it! Yet they don't have the mlb ticket to show Chicago games??? Meh. Sad thing is, while pricey, I felt the atmosphere and pizza was worth it... Yet now, no way. We are frequent patrons for Chicago games and looked forward to finding an establishment to watch the Bears play. We def will not be back due to the lack of customer concern... I'll spend my money elsewhere. I give a star to the bartender and to the pizza but that's about it.

Pizza is fantastic, I missed Chicago deep dish now my tummy is happy. The staff is excellent Molly the bartender is the best, she is really funny, we loved the drink concoctions she creates and our waitress Taylor is really nice!

This place was mediocre at best. The best thing was probably the mozzarella sticks and they were probably frozen. If you've ever had Chicago style pizza in Chicago this will not hit the spot.

I've enjoyed plenty of pizza in Chicago, Gino's East, Giordanos, Lou's. This place falls waaaay short. It's pretty simple what separates a Chicago pizza, thick buttery crust, chunky sauce and lots of toppings/cheese. After a hour and a half wait on a slow Sunday (our first pizza got lost), none of these were correct on our pizza. Crust was thin, sauce was runny and cheese and toppings were almost non existent. I really wanted to like this place, it's much closer than Chicago. I get that it takes time to workout the kinks but there's no excuse for dirty bathrooms. The vibe in Ginos in Chicago is that of a dive but this place is relatively new and bathrooms look like they haven't been cleaned since opening day.

Gino's will definitely be a pizzeria we visit again! They just opened this past Thursday as Texas' third Gino's location, however our waiter informed us that Gino's originated in Chicago and their deep dish pizzas are the real deal! The restaurant is clean and cozy and the service is prompt and friendly. This was my husband and I's first experience of deep dish pizza and was it ever delicious! They use all fresh ingredients, and the crust is really nice as well. Finally, the location is great, being located close to the medical center, a business district, residential neighborhoods and is only a 10 minute drive from home. Stop by and give Gino's a try!

I called in a big to go order on a Monday for Tuesday. Called Tuesday to confirm and they promised we would be good. I arrived 10 minutes early so I found a place at the bar to wait. The kitchen manager, Steve, came out to chat with me for a bit and we talked about Chicago and the original Gino's. He offered me a to go drink and apologized for making me wait, which wasn't the case at all. He helped me to my car, offered me a few pizzas that were made in error at no cost. Just because we placed a big order and I had to "wait". He was kind, courteous and made sure we were happy with our order. Lunch was amazing. The pizzas were perfect! Chicago Fire, buffalo chicken, supreme and the mighty meat pizzas were a huge hit! That afternoon I received a follow up call to ensure our large order was to our satisfaction! What amazing customer service as well. The food was on point...service was fantastic and it was exactly what our office needed to get us through the week. For all those who are frustrated with the wait, don't like the crust or are confused why the sauce is on top... This is what TRUE Chicago style pizza is all about.

Great stuff. It took me back to my visits to Chicago. We had great service the time we went. It will take at least 45 minutes for your pizza but we understood that from previous experiences in Chicago. So just be prepared to wait while. Relax, conversate, and enjoy some Goose Island beer.

I dont normally give 5 stars but both the service and food were excellent today. I would have liked to get the deep dish but my mother and son didnt have that level of patience (it can take up to an hour.) We went with thin crust and it was delicious. Crispy on the bottom, cheesy and flavorful on top. Toppings were piled on. Black olives, canadian bacon, mushrooms all fresh and delicious. The spinach cheese sticks were awesome, super crispy and yet not boiling hot inside. The cost is a little high but worth it if they are on point like they were today. My family really enjoyed our experience here and will be back.

Ended up here for dinner tonight after hearing a lot about this place. Service was friendly. Restaurant was clean. Place was kinda empty. Music and atmosphere were meh. Football and baseball on TVs. Food: I was expecting a real deep dish pizza after waiting almost an hour, but pizza seemed to be more of a really thick pan crust pizza. Sauce was kinda too sweet for my taste, but it was cheesy(yum), and had a generous amount of meat toppings. We ordered appetizers while waiting. Their "jumbo" wings are regular size, not jumbo; but I loved their wing sauce. Their cheesy bread was yummy. Overall, I liked it, but paying almost sixty dollars for a pizza, two appetizers, two sodas plus tip, we won't be going back. I just didn't feel the food was worth the cost and the wait. Maybe if they served free bread sticks or garden salad or had some more affordable appetizers to munch on while waiting for the pizza.

Never been to Chicago nor have I ever tasted a deep dish pizza. A friend suggested this place so we decided to try it out. The wait was less than 5 mins to be seated (and it was packed). The waitress (don't remember her name) greeted us and had our drink orders in before we could even open the menu. We went for one thing and one thing only, the deep dish pizza! She recommended her favorite so we went with the meat lovers deep dish. She alerted us that it does take about 45 mins because of the process it takes to bake. We didn't mind waiting. Once the pizza came out, we were not disappointed, best pizza in town!!! I would recommend this place to anyone who asks. The atmosphere is very bar/grill kind of feel (which we love). Definitely making this our new pizza place.

Alright, finnally tried this place and was pretty much disappointed. The draught beer was great (cold), appetizer of Calamari was good and then came the pizza. The only thing that was authentic Chicago style pizza was how they put all the toppings on, the crust however is different story. Crust was not thick, more like regular crust and absolutely no flavor, was very bland and also crunchy/crispy. $50 later for a medium pizza, appetizer and 2 draught beers, I didn't think was a very good value.

Went for USA soccer watch party. Atmopshere was great. The deep pizza was as advertised. Enjoyed it very much. Good draft beers and the service was excellent.

First time I went, I had the thin crust pizza and almost did not ever come back. My boss talked me into going back for deep dish pizza and it was much better. Santos is an awesome waiter and quite handsome also.

Ehhh..... I had high hopes for this place, but I will probably not return..... Parking was horrible and very limited. So a little more after a hour wait to be seated, everything seemed okay.... We took advice and ordered the deep dish Chicago pizza way before our order... Then we ordered appetizers and two thin crust pies for the kids.... The deep dish came out before the thin crust and the cheese took another 30 minutes to come out.... We finished eating a deep dish and one of the thin pies before the kids cheese pizza came out..... Oh and thin, is no joke.... I've always heard card board thin and thought ppl were joking or being too picky.. I know what the term means now.... Pizza wasn't horrible, sauce is good, and cheese is plenty full. But the crust on both type pf pies is horrible.... Spinach sticks were different and very good.... I still left a decent tip and didnt complain, they were busy and accidents happen... What I'm guessing happened to our cheese pizza...... But if I want a pie, I'll skip the parking and wait times and go elsewhere...

Loved it!!! Friends have eaten the real deal in Chicago and were so excited this opened here in S.A! The pizza was worth the wait and the waitress was so nice and pre warned us of how long the pizza takes to cook. Our waitress checked on us very often, great service and delicious food! We will def be back! The pizzas are HUGE and the price follows accordingly so be prepared with your wallet and tip money and be prepared for leftovers! :-)

Haven't been to Chicago for years, this brought back why i remember Ginos so well. Amazing pizza, well worth the wait! If you haven't ever had it, deep dish like this, don't expect Dominoes, it isn't the same. The drinks need some fine tuning, but the food...just dang.

We ordered a deep dish pizza which was an extremely long wait. I hyped up the place to my husband and was very disappointed. We ordered calamari to munch on while we wait. It was horrible, over cooked, no flavor, and was not fresh. Once the deep dish came out it was not very hot, the sauce was ok, the crush was rock hard, and was nothing special. We should have saved some money and gone elsewhere. The service was great but the environment was pretty boring. We could barely hear the music in our section.

Mothers Day 05-10-15 If you're from Chicago and ate here you may be disappointed. Replicated the look of Gino's from the inside but doesn't feel or taste like Gino's East. Tried the thin crust sausage pizza the Italian beef and the spinach sticks. We'll start from good to the bad to the ugly. THE GOOD. The spinach sticks were good. First time trying them. Definitely would order again. THE BAD. Pizza, too much crust/dough not enough cheese, too much cornmeal on crust, the Italian sausage not like home. $21.00 for a 14" pizza? At Dough Pizzeria, Yes. THE UGLY! Italian beef sandwich it was not. Call it a french dip or what ever the F#!& you want to call it, but don't call it an Italian beef. First the side salad that came with it had old brown wilted oxidized lettuce. Come on guys throw the old stuff out, don't feed it to your guests. Next, Italian beef is a HOT sandwich not cold cuts thrown in between two pieces of bread, which by the way should not be cut like a sub sandwich in two pieces. Giardiniera peppers were not available only sweet peppers WHAT?!!! The service. We had a young black waitress who was outstanding. She was personable, polite very thorough with her explanations and very informative. That's why we left her a 23% tip. Awesome service, even the manager on duty was very helpful when he put the Bulls game on for us. I am not going to give up on you GINO. I'm coming back for the stuffed pizza. You guy's better hit it out of the park next time. Also let our server know she kicked ass. Give her a raise! Ciao!

Such a let down. We were really excited to try this place out and get Chicago style deep dish. We ordered a thin crust pizza for the kids and their supreme version deep dish for the adults. The thin crust was just odd. Everything about it was off. Crust tasted more like regular toasted bread. Too much cheese so it was like working through warm gum to chew it. Sauce is tasteless and runny. The deep dish was sadly disappointing. Like the thin pizza, the sauce was watery and devoid of flavor. The whole thing lacked a bold taste we hoped for from a deep dish pie. Way too expensive for such a mediocre product! Here's one thing that was just peculiar. For both pizzas, the server sliced them at the table. The lack of proper slicing utensils and the vast amount of cheese made for an awkward couple of minutes as the server became flummoxed trying to figure out how to get the pizza apart and not leave trails of gooey cheese strewn about our table. We eventually assured here we could handle it and mercifully let her go. Either slice those things before bringing them out or give the servers proper tools to do it correctly at the table. So an underwhelming couple of pizzas with sky high prices will keep us from returning.

So living here in San Antonio I was searching for a place that had deep dish pizza after returning home from my trip to Chicago. Being in Chicago made me never want Pizza Hut again so I stumbled upon Gino's east pizza and I must say there pizza was delicious will definitely return again

I really liked this place, really unique taste different from other Chicago style pizza places (this mainly has to do with the crust. I could see people either love it or hate it depending on your taste. If you don't like Chicago style pizza they have a nice menu. The pizza is pricey, but its not a pizza meant to be eaten by one or two people with some left overs, I would bring some friends to take one of these things on. Also, be prepared to wait, it takes about 45 min to an hour to make a deep dish, which they will tell you about before hand. I will be eating here again.

Definitely glad to have Gino's finally open up here in San Antonio. Tonight was a soft opening for family and friends. Staff was friendly and place is nice. Hours are from Sunday to Thursday 11am till 10pm and Friday/Saturday 11am till midnight. The menu was limited today due to it being a soft opening for limited guest, even so they had a great selection of foods to choose from. The place was jumping with all the people that were invited with their reservations. We decided to go with the Capprese Jar Salad and Crispy Brussels sprouts for the starters. They both had good flavor and the presentation of the salad was nice. We went with the classic Gino's Supreme pizza. The pizza could use a little more cheese and was a little too runny but overall it was good. Can't wait to go back to explore the full menu when the open this Thursday. I would definitely recommend making a reservation as they will be packed for sure for the next month or so.

Gino's East in San Antonio is the only 'true' Chicago pizza I've discovered in 10 years. That said, I cannot say it is the best - but it is quite good! The sauce, IMHO, makes a pizza, and this Gino's is close, but not quite there yet. It's still a bit bland (but I don't know what makes a pizza sauce have the "full" taste). The toppings (a misnomer, because the sauce is on top in a Chicago pizza) were fresh and tasty. The crust was perfectly done (in contrast to early editions which were reported under-cooked, again a common misstep in making this type of pizza). Service seems to have improved dramatically since it opened (based upon my reading of other reviews), which is to be expected in a new restaurant serving a "foreign" pizza to Texans. As everyone has mentioned, you do not rush a Chicago deep-dish pizza! Arrive planning to spend at least a couple of hours over dinner. The calamari was good, not greasy, but not exceptional (obviously, one should not have high expectations of calimari in a desert city). They have a nice selection of local and national beers on tap and plenty of large-screen TVs to keep you entertained watching the seasonal sports. While I recommend flying to Chicago (or strangely, Kansas City!) for amazing Chicago deep dish, I'll certainly return to patronize this adventurous expansion of the great Chicago franchise.

I'm a big big fan of deep dish pizza. I thought this place would have been really good, but sadly I was disappointed. I called in and waited for 40 minutes for this goodness to be devoured. When I got home ready to eat, the crust was super hard and not edible at all. The filling which was the meaty legend was ok, but the crust was the losing point for me.

The lunch special got us out in an hour. Balsamic vinagrette dressing was delicious. Sen was a great waitress. We really enjoyed our visit. We got pepperoni pizza and sausage pizza. I liked the sausage the best

I only gave it a star so I could get started on this review otherwise I would give it no star. After waiting 15 minutes placing our order and after 20 minutes asking where our salad was at the waitress came back and said our ticket was never entered and this has happened to her all day today. That is INSANE especially for the prices they were goingto charge. We immediately left without management even coming over to address this poor service. We ended up at Capparelli's a local small business which gave us immediate service and great food.

Wish I could say great things but I can't, went for the thin crust pizza, after a long wait it arrived, sub standard flavor, ordered large salad to share large bowel but very shallow, hardly enough to share. Won't be back and my prediction is they won't last. Sorry to say.

Nice people but deep dish pizza leaves a lot to be desired. As a long time Gino's East supporter, I am stunned at the poor execution. Hope they fix it because I would like to come back.

Luv it?! Our server was awesome!! Came for lunch and service was great... Taylor kept checking with us making sure we were good. Me personally being from Chicago I actually like this pizza better... Of course people have to realize when u order deep dish it's takes a while so recommend ordering an appetizer and a few drinks before hand.... U all need to check out this place

My wife and I had the meaty legend deep dish pizza. In my opinion it was okay, nothing spectacular. Yes, it took about 45 minutes for the pizza to come out but we really didn't mind since we had the mozzarella sticks for our appetizer and draft beers. Our server was fine until at the end with the check. There was party of 8 for our table, 4 couples. She put everything on 1 check and told us to circle or whatever to identify what's is ours. It would've been a whole lot easier if she ask what we had to separate the checks. This made confusion on her and put the wrong orders on our check. Not only that but she put my military discount on someone else check even though I show her my id. In the end, after a couple of correction on the checks, it was finally corrected. Not sure if we'll come back again.

Glad to finally have authentic Chicago pizza here. Had to get re Italian beef first. For those that don't know, a deep dish takes about an hour to make so be prepared. The sandwich was great even though they don't dip it, you do get the juice :-) . The fries are pretty tasty also. The bruscetta came with tomato basil on the side, if you don't like garlic....Don't get this, or if you want to end your date quickly....get this ;-). Come and try the real thing.

The pizza was great!!!! The only think I don't recommend ordering is the family platter... It wasn't that great... The calamari was to battered, but the cheese stick was on point!!! I also had a Caesar salad but the dressing was too runny... Other than that this place is on point!!

The only reason they're getting two stars is because our server was decent. Ordered the lunch special. Mom wanted to add veggies to hers and they were kind enough to sauté some and add to her pizza even though that's not on the lunch menu. The salads were fresh, clean, but the sauces seemed cheap and store bought. Pizza: disgusting. The crust was like regular bread mixed with corn flour and over cooked!! You could have beat a nail into a cement wall with that crust, it was so hard. The sauce didn't have a SPECK of seasoning and the cheese was sick. It was SO cheap, you could tell by the fact that it didn't pull apart, it was like old, chewed gum that was rehydrated. I looked around the restaurant and noticed most people weren't even touching the crusts, they'd just scooped out the ingredients in the pizza. Don't waste your time and money. I'm a pizza snob and I'd rather order Pizza Hut than come back here.

Not that great. Pizza was watery and collapses when picked up. The only great thing about this is the crust. Stick to Chicago's Pizza on Blanco. Better overall taste and the deep dish doesn't collapse when picked up.

I'm from Chicago and very well travelled. Came here with my family and they were exited about Chicago style pizza. Too bad the deep dish was barely a deep and the thin crust wasn't thin. Both pizzas had flavor, but the crust was lacking. Also the thin crust was supposed to be a white pizza, but they put red sauce and a ton of cheese. All in all unfortunate and disappointing.

Came to check out what the big deal was. They clearly still need to get things in order. We walked in and 3 over eager young ladies greeted us and asked us how many in our party...clearly it was only 2 of us and no one else was behind us. They went back and forth on where to place us. One of them told us to have a seat and they would call us soon. We sat and then we experienced the most amazing artichoke dip we had ever had. I must have! The pizza take a little while to get and it was late so we ordered a thin and crispy "white pizza"...no red sauce. It was very good, but clearly they were having some issues with the dough rising. The manager came to check on us. We talked about the dough rise and San Antonio wat osmosis. He let us know a reversed system was already in the works to make their pizza even better.

I've had Uno's and compared to this I think Uno's was better in my opinion. We went on a weekend evening and the wait for the pizza was more than one hour. Great place for lunch I am sure but not the dinner rush!

  • Joyce F.

great experience. be prepared though. went on a friday night and the wait was an hour and the pizza takes an hour to cook. luckily we found a spot at the bar and decided to eat there. the bar staff was great! attentive and made sure we had was we needed. ordered a 312 beer, antipasta salad, calamari and meaty pizza. WAYY TOOO much food but our eyes were bigger than our stomach. everything was yummy and the pizza was well worth the wait. next time i would skip everything and just order a small pizza for the two of us. that is enough food. will be back.

We finally decided to give the new Gino's a try, so drove out on a Friday night. Looked busy, but we decided to check it out anyways. As we tried to walk in, we were turned away. The ENTIRE restaurant had been closed for a function. WTH? What kind of restaurant closes the entire dining room on a Friday night? Unbelievable. We'll never know if it is good or not because any place that would pull such a ridiculous stunt isn't someplace we'd try going back too.

$21 for a small (4 slice) personal pan style, meatless margherita pizza...highly doubtful my family will return. After an appetizer & 3 tap beers our total bill was $73 for my husband & I and I left there starving!!

Pizza was ok. Customer service was horrible. Waited a while just for drinks, refills, dressing for salad, and check. First thing i did was order my childs meal. Asked if we could get it asap. Her food came out the same time as my food. Just for a 1 topping thin crust small pizza was $20. Over priced. Not to impressed.

  • S J.

The deep dish IS different but it's good. The other reviews stating how terrible it is are harsh just because it doesn't please their personal taste or texture palette. The thin crust is amazing. The food is delish & there's something for everyone if you choose to give it a shot. Friendly servers and staff who help each other out. The restaurant itself is very clean as well.

Opening day. Disappointed to see managers standing around self congratulating and talking to each instead of focusing on customers. My server was confused about the menu, kept trying to push the standard instead of letting me "build your own." Server mixed up the soda glass of my guest with my tea refill twice. Didn't bring the dressing and forgot the grilled chicken for the salad. Just cancel the chicken I said. Are you sure he asked? I already waited 20 mins for salad, can't wait more. Plus still don't have my dressing. Saw other tables seated after mine get their pizzas. At this point they are at 1 star. Salad overpriced at $11. Interior looks shabby and low budget. Then the pizza came out and it was good, earning back some respect. Crust is more like cornbread than biscuit in texture. Still good, I just eat everything but the edge because it's just too much dough.

    Crust and sauce are horrible.

Do not waste your time, especially fellow Chicagoans! This place is an imposter! The generally super-thick pizza was thin, the crust was flavorless (did not have that deep yeast/beer flavor and extreme lack of cornmeal), the sauce was not chunky, but rather extremely watered down, and the sausage is not the kind of sausage that is served in Chicago! When the waitress came by to ask us how it was, I think she knew immediately by the look of disgust on my face. I told her it wasn't the same and she said it wasn't. She, being from Chicago herself, said that they make their own sauce and dough, but have their own recipe. Hello? Then why name the place, Gino's East. Home of the Chicago Deep Dish!?? I have waited and waited, with much anticipation for this place to open, and when I left, I was almost in tears. Going back to Chicago in August. I'll get my "fix" then and bring some back on the airplane. Maybe I'll just go to Uno's, as I am extremely upset with Gino's East. All I did is brag about this place and refer a numerous amount of people to go there. Now I'm going to have to backtrack and tell them all to stay away. I don't want their first impression of Chicago deep dish to be marred by such a pre-fab product. Oh, and do not buy mixed drinks or beer there. $10 a pop for a margarita and $5 for a bottle of beer. We bought 2 large deep dish, two margaritas, one beer, and an appetizer, and the bill, not including the tip, was $105.00! I definitely felt robbed, but was generous in my tip to the waitress for her honesty. Shame on you, Gino's East!

So lucky to have this place right down the street. I was able to make it to the soft open. It was busy as to be expected. The staff and management seemed to have things under control and everybody was helping each other. Which is always something a manager loves to see out of his staff. Micheal our server was well seasoned. No I didn't eat my server. I was describing his experience showed in great form. The food was great. We were tolled of the prep time for the pizzas and were asked to place these orders first to begin the cooking. Anybody should appreciate the notice. If you can't wait then plan ahead next time or just chill. The caprese had nice presentation. The brussel sprouts were freaking ridiculous! We tried the margarita and the meat lovers. In hind site we would had just ordered the one realizing the shear size of the medium? I don't want to see a large.unless im seated at a table of NFL offensive linemen. But it was true to a chicago style pizza pie. Which I really enjoyed. Great job guys.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
